Charge speeds

Across the Fiat range.

Every Fiat here uses a Type 2 inlet, so one Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits the range. On-board AC charging ranges from about 2.3kW to 11kW depending on the model. A cable never charges faster than your car's on-board charger or your home supply allows, so on a standard single-phase UK home a 7.4 kW cable gives the full speed available.

Speeds are on-board AC limits. Rapid DC uses the station's own cable.

Charging guide

Charging
your Fiat.

Fiat's electric range covers a wide spread of vehicles: the 500e city car, the 600e compact SUV, the Grande Panda, the Topolino quadricycle, and a full set of commercial electric vans including the E-Doblo, E-Scudo, E-Ulysse, and the E-Ducato in both its generations. Every Fiat electric vehicle uses a Type 2 inlet, so one cable type covers the entire range.

Where models differ is in their AC charging speed: some, like the 500e, E-Doblo, Grande Panda, E-Scudo, and E-Ulysse, charge at up to 7.4kW on a single phase, while others, like the 600e and both E-Ducato generations, have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. That difference is what determines whether a larger cable earns its cost. Pick your model below for exact charge times, or read the guidance underneath.

What charging cable does a Fiat need?

Every Fiat EV uses a Type 2 inlet, so the cable you need is a Type 2 to Type 2. A 5m length suits most home driveways and public charge points. Step up to 7m or 10m if you park on the street or your wallbox sits well away from the car. No Fiat needs a Type 1 cable.

The 600e and E-Ducato (both the older gen1 and the newer gen2) have an 11kW three-phase onboard charger. Nearly all UK homes are single-phase, which caps charging at 7.4kW regardless of the cable rating, so for home use a 7.4kW cable already delivers everything a standard supply can provide. A 22kW rated cable only makes sense if you have a three-phase supply or regularly plug into 22kW public AC points, where these vehicles can pull up to 11kW.

The 500e, Grande Panda, E-Doblo, E-Scudo, E-Ulysse, and the Topolino all charge at 7.4kW or less on AC. For these a 7.4kW cable is already at or above what the car can draw, so there is no benefit in buying a larger one. A single 5m 7.4kW Type 2 cable suits most of the Fiat electric range, and is the right starting point for anyone who charges mainly at home.

Do all Fiats use a Type 2 charging cable?+

Yes. Every Fiat electric vehicle, from the 500e city car to the E-Ducato van, uses a Type 2 inlet. That means they all take the same Type 2 to Type 2 cable for home and public AC charging, and no Fiat needs a Type 1 cable.

What charging cable does a Fiat 600e need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, 5m for most driveways. The 600e has an 11kW three-phase onboard charger, but on a standard single-phase home supply it charges at up to 7.4kW. A 7.4kW cable gives the full home-charging speed. A 22kW cable only helps if you have a three-phase supply or use 22kW public AC points regularly.

Can any Fiat charge at 22kW on AC?+

No Fiat charges at 22kW on AC. The 600e and E-Ducato top out at 11kW on three phases, and the rest of the range is lower. On a standard single-phase UK home every Fiat charges at 7.4kW or less, so a 22kW cable would never unlock more than 11kW even on the fastest AC models.

What cable does a Fiat 500e need?+

A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The 500e has a 7.4kW single-phase onboard charger, so a standard 7.4kW cable gives its full home AC speed. There is no benefit in choosing a larger cable, and the small 42kWh battery can fully charge from a 7.4kW wallbox in around six hours.

What length cable do I need for my Fiat EV?+

5m suits most home wallboxes and public charge points. Choose 7m or 10m if you park on the street, share a charger, or your wallbox is mounted far from the car. Longer cables are heavier to coil and cost more, so buy the shortest length that reaches comfortably.
